Don Rulien is the President and founding member of Rulien + Associates, LLC. Don graduated in 1980 from Central Washington University with a Bachelor's of Science in Accounting. Before starting his own practice in October 1991, he worked with two large regional firms.
Don holds Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF) and Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) credentials. He is a member of the Alaska Society of CPAs and serves on the Council of the American Institute of CPAs. Don also serves as a board member for many other non-profit organizations.
Don works extensively in the field of construction contractors, medical practices and a variety of small businesses, as well as in the litigation field as an expert witness.
Don believes that the client should always come first and strives to have his firm work towards maintaining a high degree of integrity and professional service to each and every client, no matter their size.
Lance graduated in 1998 from St. John's University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting. He moved to Alaska in 2000 and worked for a small local accounting firm; in 2002, he joined Rulien + Associates, LLC and became an owner in the firm in January 2010.
Lance is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Certified Machinery and Equipment Appraiser (CMEA). He is a member of the Alaska Society of CPAs (ASCPA) and the American Institute of CPAs. He has served on the board for the ASCPA, as well as the boards for various other non-profit organizations.
Lance works extensively in the area of professional services, including medical practices, attorneys, engineers, real estate agents and others. He also specializes in tax and accounting services for construction contractors, non-profit organizations and many other small business entities.
Lance is certified by the National Equipment & Business Builders (NEBB) Institute to value construction equipment, business equipment and other personal property across the United States.
Lance believes that the cornerstone to success is always to put the client first. He values professionalism, integrity and ethics in his practice. He strives to provide exceptional client service and communication, so that his clients stay informed and their tax and accounting needs are met.
Janet loves her job and one of the most enjoyable aspects is meeting and working with clients. Janet tries to live by the motto "say what you mean and mean what you say". She believes that a kind word and laughter should be part of every day.
Janet is an honors graduate from the University of Alaska and earned her undergraduate degree in Accounting. She pursued her Associates of Science degree in Medical Technology from the Medical Institute of Minnesota where she graduated with honors.
Janet is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Her work experience includes working at a large international firm where her primary focus was corporate and partnership taxation. Janet joined Rulien + Associates, LLC where she assists individuals as well as C and S corporations, small businesses, personal services corporations, trusts, and estates. She also has experience in the medical field. As the spouse of a military veteran, Janet lived in Europe and various cities throughout the United States before making Alaska home.
Susan Loos moved to Anchorage in 1982 from Portland, Oregon. Prior to joining Rulien + Associates, LLC in 1999, she worked for a regional and local firm in the Anchorage area. Susan's areas of practice include business and personal taxation and planning, as well as estate and trust planning and compliance. She is a graduate of the University of Minnesota.
Susan Loos is a member of the Anchorage Women's Golf Association, current member and past board member of the Alaska Society of CPAs, past treasurer of Alaska Botanical Garden, and a Master Gardener.
Katelyn Burns joined Rulien + Associates, LLC in September 2007. She is a graduate of the University of Alaska Anchorage and holds two bachelor's degrees, with dual majors in accounting and management. She began her career in accounting in June 2004 by training as a bookkeeper with a small firm in Eagle River, Alaska. She is a ProAdvisor for QuickBooks and is well versed in many other accounting software programs, including Peachtree, Creative Solutions and Master Builder.
Katelyn is a member of the Alaska Society of CPAs and the American Institute of CPAs. She provides a high quality of customer service in planning and preparing tax returns for corporations and individuals, preparing financial statements for all of our clients' needs and reviewing all phases of our bookkeeping activities. Katelyn is committed to making sure the client's business succeeds.
Brenda's first priority in business is to listen. Her goal is to create an environment for straightforward exchange of questions and ideas.
Brenda holds undergraduate degrees in Accounting and General Management from Purdue University. She pursued her Master's in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from Rice University, graduating as a Jones Scholar.
Brenda is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in both Alaska and Texas and is also a Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA).
Brenda's work experience includes partnership and corporate taxation and business valuations in various industries from oil and gas to health clubs to construction contractors. After living overseas for five years, Brenda moved to Alaska nine years ago and considers this her home.
Beth has worked in the bookkeeping and payroll fields in Anchorage for nearly fifteen years, with the last nine years at CPA firms. She is proficient in the Client Solutions Accounting computer program.
Beth enjoys working with the variety of clients at Rulien + Associates, LLC and feels her greatest assets is being able to provide clients with a personalized service.
Beth is a member of the American Payroll Association's Northern Lights chapter, which serves the Anchorage area. She is also active in the local chapter of Quota International, Inc., a worldwide community service organization.
Debbie Brown, Office Manager, came to Rulien + Associates, LLC in October 2000. She holds an Associate's Degree in Business Administration and has previous experience working in a CPA office. Debbie assists the firm in office duties related to accounts payable, accounts receivable and tax assembly.
Megan Wilson, Administrative Assistant, came to Rulien + Associates, LLC in August 2007. She is currently a student at the University of Alaska Anchorage. Along with Debbie, she also assists in office duties such as accounts receivable, tax assembly, greeting clients and maintaining client files.
